Words from the women who shape Sussan: past, present, and proudly moving forward.

When Sussan first introduced This Goes With That in 1981, it became one of the most recognisable phrases in Australian fashion. But it was more than just a jingle. We were making a promise that style could be simple and getting dressed didn't have to be complicated.

Now, over 40 years later, that promise remains as relevant as ever.

Women today are juggling more responsibilities than ever before, and research is starting to reflect what we have always known: what we wear affects how we feel. From shaping our mood to shifting our mindset, our clothing can alter the course of our day. That's where This Goes With That comes into play. It's not about looking back; it’s about reclaiming ease, confidence, and clarity in a time when everything else feels increasingly complicated.

To mark the return of this iconic phrase and celebrate the launch of our Heritage Collection, we asked the women of Sussan what "This Goes With That" means to them, then and now.

"This Goes With That is about the journey we've taken both as a brand and a trusted destination for women's fashion. Welcome back, old friend."
Margaret, Store Manager

"Our customers connected with the jingle, sang along, and many still recall it fondly. It's a great reminder that we've always been at the forefront of women's fashion."
Jeanette, Store Team Member

“Even though I've only worked at Sussan for 18 months, I've been shopping here for over 40 years. The jingle always made me want to pop into a store, knowing I could find a complete outfit under one roof. This Goes With That reminds people of Sussan's commitment to inclusive, mix-and-match fashion that's both comfortable and beautiful. Bring it on!"
Gail, Store Team Member.

"I started with Sussan in 1976. I've left, come back, travelled, had a baby … all up, I've spent 44 years with the company. In 1981, I took the jingle's single record with me to the UK and played it for my relatives. They loved it. The phrase stuck in everyone's heads because that's what we did in-store: mix and match and make getting dressed easy."
Jill, Store Team Member.

"Iconic then and now, This Goes With That makes me proud to be part of Sussan: an Australian brand with a long history and heritage. As a Buyer, I'm passionate about designing pieces that layer effortlessly, evolve into wardrobe staples, and last for seasons to come."

Maddy, Buying Team

"This campaign took me straight back to shopping with my mum. It wasn't just about buying something new; it was about the time we spent together and the excitement of getting dressed for something special. This Goes With That captures that beautifully. It reflects what Sussan has always stood for: empowering women through style and service. When I see our teams bringing it to life, I see the continuation of those memories — mums and daughters shopping together, women walking in unsure and leaving styled, confident, and seen. It's not just a campaign. It's our DNA." Bianca, Retail Operations Team.

"This Goes With That is a mindset. Less pressure, more confidence. It's about fashion that supports women — not the other way around. The Heritage Sweat does just that; it goes with everything, including the chaos, the coffee run, and the school drop-off you're already late for." Mimi, Buying Team.

“This Goes With That brings back memories of when I first moved to Melbourne in the 1990s. Every summer, I'd visit my mum overseas for Christmas, and she always asked for the same thing: Sussan blouses and cotton pants. She's passed now, but she introduced me to the brand I now work for. This Goes With That is still part of our everyday language in-store. Our customers know it, and our team lives it. It's a heritage worth keeping alive, and I'm proud to be part of it, especially now as we launch the heritage sweat." Mira, Store Team Member.

"My mum was a Sussan model in the 1950s. She modelled twin sets and baby doll pyjamas, and every engaged girlfriend bought Sussan lingerie for their trousseau. I still remember putting a striped tee on lay-by when I was 15. I've shopped at Sussan all my life and have proudly managed the Floreat store for 20 years." Lisa, Store Team Member.

"I remember shopping at this store with my Nanna and now I manage it. It's a full-circle moment I'm proud of." Katie, Store Team Member.

"I joined Sussan in 1987 and have spent 31 years with the business. This Goes With That is iconic. It represents our heritage and what we stand for. To me, it's about positivity, understanding women, and creating wardrobes where everything works together." Sara, Store Team Member.

"This phrase reminds me of my Nan and my mum and the influence they've had on me. That shared love of fashion ties us all together. Melanie, Marketing Team.

"I worked in-store 22 years ago, returned in 2016 as a Business Manager, and have now been in the role for nine years. Coming back felt like coming home. My mum has shopped at Sussan for over 60 years, and I'm excited to relaunch This Goes With That and reconnect with customers' memories."

Andrea, Business Manager

"Even though I wasn't familiar with the original jingle before joining Sussan, the phrase instantly made sense. Collection after collection, I've seen how Sussan focuses on layering, versatility and pieces that work together." Michelle, Digital Team.

"This Goes With That is more than a style cue, it's a mindset I carry into work and life. It's about simplicity that works; whether it's a top that goes with everything or a campaign that resonates across generations." Grace, Marketing Team.

"This return brings back so many memories for me. A customer once gave me the original 45-inch single of the song. This Goes With That captures what we stand for: a seamless, inclusive, and joyful shopping experience. I can't wait to wear my sweat and sing along again." Diana, Business Manager.

"It's about more than just clothing. This Goes With That is a message to our wardrobes, our friendships, and our lives." Emma, Business Manager.

"It reflects exactly how women think about dressing — that's why it still works, all these years later." Rachel, Buying team.
